The first three pictures on this page were submitted by Alan
Moseley and show The Incredible Hulk altered which was powered by a 5360cc
Chevrolet. |
The car pulled a giant wheelie at Santa Pod and crashed and these two shots show the early stages of that accident. Fortunately Robert was unscathed. To see two pictures that I took from the banking after it came back down to earth click here and here. |
The next four pictures were sent in by Anthony Willstrop and this first one shows the famous Whistler Reliant GTE-bodied altered campaigned by John Woolfe Racing and driven by Dennis Priddle. |
The team's next ride was the Quartermaster Top Fuel Dragster. That is team member Tony Gane standing by the roll cage. |
A great close-in shot of Paula Murphy burning out in her STP-sponsored Plymouth Duster. This shot was taken at Santa Pod in 1973. As regular readers will know this car became Houndog 7 and was driven with great success by Owen Hayward. |
The late, great Sammy Miller being manoeuvred into position in the Vanishing Point rocket-powered funny car. The word awesome is over-used these days, but anyone who saw Sammy in action will agree that it is the only adjective which could be applied to this remarkable man and his equally remarkable cars. |
The next series of pictures were taken by James Tank and they
are rather more up to date than those I usually receive but I have no problem
with that. |
. . . and here is a rather surreal picture of Wayne Nicholson in his Lucky Devil blown 'Vette Super Pro ET entry racing under the lights. |
However, misfortune struck later in the meeting when Tony Baker driving the Fireforce 1 jet funny car experienced this horrendous looking fire. |
Amazingly, and to everyone's great relief, Tony was uninjured which is more than could be said for poor old Fireforce 1 which, as you can see, was a write-off. |
The next sequence of shots were taken by Keith Mitchell starting
at Blackbushe Aerodrome on 8 August 1971. |
I am afraid I cannot identify the Jaguar-powered altered in the foreground, but that is Bruce Brown driving his Age Machine dragster in the far lane. |
Roland Pratt smokes the Hillbillies' Fiat Topolino off the lane in a somewhat uneven match-up with the mystery Jag-powered car. |
Gerry Cookson waits to run in his The Joker junior dragster alongside the famous Stripteaser Jag-powered Minivan. |
And here is a close-up shot of Stripteaser taken later that month in the pits at Santa Pod on 30 August. |
Tony Dickson's Money Hungry as imported from the USA with Keith Harvie's Firebrewed behind. |
On now to the NDRC's meeting held at RNAY Wroughton on 8 April
1973. |
Keith snapped this picture of the artwork on the Accles & Pollock sponsored Revolution III fueller which was campaigned for a while by the Hillbillies team. |
More artwork, this time on Barry Sheavill's Stagecoach altered taken at the International meeting at the Pod on 8 July 1973. |
The final set of pictures on this page are the work of Mark
Richards and we start with some pictures of the eclectic Pro Comp class of
yesteryear which combined blown methanol burning dragsters, funny cars and
altereds, and even mixed in some injected nitro entries for good
measure. |
And here is Björn Ardin with the same problem in his unique Volvo 440-bodied funny car. |
The Hazelton brothers' Thunderbird altered burning out in characteristic style. |
Thunderbird looks to be on the wrong end of a race here with the Page brothers' potent Panic altered. |
Clive Skilton racing in Pro Comp? |
The next three shots show Bob West in Slick Willy having a bit of a moment at Blackbushe in May 1983, Bob was fine after his experience although the car looked decidely second-hand. |
And finally, one last bit of
destruction to leave you with. |
