All of the pictures on this page were taken by Peter at the 1980 July International meeting at Santa Pod.
The first two pictures show Ron Picardo's AA/FA which was called The Force.

The late Jim Read one of the all-time greats of European Pro Comp racing.

Peter Crane was the first man outside the USA to run a five in a top fuel dragster.  He had much less success in the Hustler funny car which was a re-cycled version of the first Gladiator AA/FA.

A couple of shots of the Tre Kronor Pro Comp funny car in the pits.  That name over the rear wheel - Knut Söderquist - it rings a bell somewhere.  No, don't tell me, it will come to me . . .

Dave and Sue Coles' Helzapoppin' Model T-bodied altered.  This car started as a Middle Competition Altered and finished up in Pro Comp.

The 1980 July International meeting featured two of the greatest American fuel funny car drivers of the period.  These two pictures show Raymond Beadle and the Plymouth Arrow bodied Blue Max car.

The other US star was Gene Snow and his Snowman AA/FA.
These blokes were the dog's danglies back then - can you imagine Gary Scelzi and John Force coming over to the UK to race these days?

Gerry Andrews warming the slicks on the Stones team's Hemi Hunter II Pro Comp dragster.

Back in the 1970s and '80s nearly all of the Middle Competition Altereds used straight 6 Jaguar lumps and some of them had full bodies.
On the left is the famous Stripteaser Minivan which at this time was probably being driven by Bob Jarrett, on the right is Geoff Martin's Oxford Builder II which featured a Reliant Kitten body.

Alan Newton's D Modified Corvette which he called The Sting.

This car was an Outlaw Anglia before anyone had thought the name up - Alan O'Connor's Al's Gasser - still going strong I am very pleased to say.

This L Modified Morris Minor (appropriately called Meanie Minor) featured a 1690cc Ford engine and, believe me, it could really motor.  It was driven by District Nurse Hazel Wloszek although sometimes she let her husband Richard have a go.

The late Henk Vink burning out on his double Kawasaki Big Spender Top Fuel bike.
