I thought we could get Peter's sixth page off to a good start with this excellent series of pictures of World Funny Car Champion Raymond Beadle burning out in his Plymouth Arrow bodied Blue Max flopper at Santa Pod.
These pictures of The Blue Max were taken at the 1980 July International meeting.

That's the way to do it!

On now to the Supernationals meeting in 1980 and Ronnie 'The Joker' Picardo kindly poses for Peter in front of The Force, his Monza-bodied fuel funny car.

The Hazelton brothers' Thunderbird Pro Comp Altered.  This picture really sums up what these big altereds were all about - unadulterated excitement.

This is Brian Johnson attempting to asphyxiate his missus as he burns out on his Imperial Wizard Pro Stocker.

Brian and the Wizard leaving the line hard.  Can any motorcycle buff out there identify the rider in the far lane?

The late Henk Vink performs a rolling burn out on his double engined injected Big Spender bike.

This is Nigel Patrick's 1200cc turbocharged Kawasaki BC 270 which was kindly identified by both Ivan Sansom and Clive Rooms.  Clive made his identification from a programme for the meeting at Blackbushe held on 20 April 1980 and noted that the competition number had changed to BPS 270 by the following month.

The Page brothers' legendary Panic! Pro Comp Altered.  They raced everywhere and always gave it everything they had, no wonder then that they had such an enthusiastic following which included me.

Tina Page in The Fast Lady slingshot dragster facing up against Paul Manders' funny car.
This car was originally campaigned by the team of Dennis Priddle, Dave Riswick, Pete Stanford and Tony Gane when it was latterly known as Mr Six after it became the first car to run a sub-seven second run outside of the USA.

A swift fast forward in time now to the World Series held at Santa Pod Raceway in 1981 for this shot of the new and the old.
In the foreground is thought to be Stefan Jonsson's Mustang (which became known as the Birka Racing Mustang), behind is the legendary Al's Gasser Ford Pop.  My thanks to Jon Crawford for the ID on the Mustang.
Jon remembers Hazel Wlosek in her incredibly fast Morris Minor racing this car with something like a four second handicap and just being caught in the lights.

Fisher & Janssen's Pro Stock in the fire up road.

The Vampire jet dragster being towed in the pits at Santa Pod.  My thanks to Lesley Wright for confirming that it was indeed Keiran Westman in the cockpit when this shot was taken.

Two shots of rocket man Sammy Miller signing copies of Peter Jones' and David Hardcastle's book on drag racing.
David Hardcastle is standing on Sammy's right wearing the baseball cap in the picture on the left.

Sammy Miller's simply awesome Vanishing Point rocket-powered funny car.

Sammy has given up the hot seat of Vanishing Point on this occasion to fellow rocketeer Al Eierdam.

This is Sammy's Oxygen rocket dragster which he drove in a series of match races against Al Eierdam in Vanishing Point.  The times for the Sunday runs were: 1st race, Al Eierdam won with 4.79/228 to Sammy's 4.67/269, and 2nd race Sammy won with 4.53/320 to Al's 4.63/240. Thanks to Tog of Eurodragster for these results.

And finally the late Allan 'Bootsie' Herridge who drove fuel dragsters and funny cars, the Vanishing Point rocket funny car,  jet dragsters and tragically the jet powered funny car in which he lost his life.
