A rear view of the Hazelton's Fiat Topolino-bodied Thunderbird Pro Comp Altered.

All big altereds are evil handling beasts which is probably why people love to watch them, Thunderbird was certainly no exception and proved it in this collision with the Santa Pod pit lane barrier after pulling a gigantic wheelie in 1980.
Ironically, that sign flapping about on the barrier reads "Motor sport is dangerous".

An ignominious end to a great car, Thunderbird is towed away after the accident.

Harlan Thompson burning out in the Protector funny car at Mantorp Park.

Ray Hoare's highly innovative Turbo Saxon dragster is seen here in its next incarnation as The Instigator driven by the late Marion James.

Allan 'Bootsie' Herridge burns out in the Mark II version of the Gladiator funny car at Santa Pod Raceway.

John Grosland driving his Seaport Automotive sponsored Pro Comp funny car.

Monica Öberg in her Top Fuel Dragster on home soil at Mantorp Park.

I had no idea who was riding this bike until Jim Broome (with the help of Steve Woollatt) narrowed it down to either Tom Quinn (who built the bike), or Bob Webster (who later acquired it).  Steve Woollatt was also sponsored by Daytona.
The mystery is now solved.  Peter Scott, who now owns the bike and is restoring it, has been in touch.  He has spoken to Bob Webster who confirms that he was riding the machine in this picture.

Another day at the office for Norwegian Pro Comp funny car pilot Steinar Stolen.  This picture was taken at the World Series Finals at Santa Pod in 1979.

Eiward & Forsberg's E street altered makes a little smoke at Mantorp Park.

Martin Hopp's Bifrost sponsored Pro Comp funny car was always very well turned out and even travelled in a glazed trailer so everyone could appreciate the car.

Krister Johansson in stage at Mantorp Park in his Pro Comp dragster.

The crew push the Wheeldon & Claxton Pro Comp dragster back to the line at Santa Pod in 1980.

I think Peter Jones may be a little biased, his caption for this picture reads "Norm Wheeldon launches the best looking dragster around".  Well, you have to admit, is difficult to disagree with him.

Harry Räikkönen from Finland has come to my rescue and identified this car as Gunnar Schön's 340" small block Mopar-engined AMX.  This car was later driven and owned by former pro stock driver Jari Konola.
