The late, great Slam'n Sammy Miller waits impassively in his Oxygen rocket powered dragster before blasting down the strip for another 4 second 300mph run.

A fine shot of Dennis Priddle launching his Chevy Monza bodied funny car at Santa Pod Raceway.

Dennis Priddle poses with the JWR Monza.

Dennis Priddle's engine in bits.

Rick Fielding in his Imagination dragster which was powered by a Triumph Dolomite engine if my memory serves me right.

Peter Crane was the first man outside the USA to be credited with a 5 second run, that was achieved in the Stormbringer dragster.  Unfortunately he had less success with the Hustler funny car which was a re-working of Bootsie Herridge's Gladiator.

And to start off a little 'Meet the Drivers' session, here is the man himself - Peter Crane.

Russ Carpenter was an absolute genius at extracting power from nitro-burning blown and injected 2.5 litre Daimler V8 engines.

Norm Wheeldon and Tim Claxton were both forces to be reckoned with in competition altered before they came together in Pro Comp.  Tim is kneeling down on the left of picture, Norm is in the dungarees and team member Steve Rose has the NHRA patch on his jacket.  The 'lumberjack' on the left is none other than Alan O'Connor.

Roy Phelps supervises another run from the late Allan 'Bootsie' Herridge, this was taken at an Easter Internationals meeting at Santa Pod.

Bootsie launches the Asphalt Alleygator Top Fuel Dragster out of the hole.

Another fine launch shot, this time it is Gerry Andrews driving the Stones' team Hemi Hunter II Pro Comp Dragster.

Andy Craddock used to drive this neat little Frontline competition altered.  Andy went on to drive a top fuel dragster and a funny car.

Another very fine driver who is sadly no longer with us - 'Le Patron' Jim Read in his Dennis Priddle built Pro Comp Dragster.

John Clift did more than his fair share of developing British engined drag bikes.  This is an absolutely great shot of him making all the horsepower he needs.

Peter has got us right up close and personal with Rod Pallant as he drives his twin Kawasaki engined LA Hooker off the line.

Dave Prior's Warlock was previously campaigned by Nobby Hills as the Houndog 9 funny car.

Gunnar Elmqvist (the 'G' in the Swedish P&G top fuel racing team which is featured extensively elsewhere on the site) has been in touch to say that this Vega was driven by Yvonne Fredlund from Uppsala in Sweden.  Her car was powered by an injected big block Chevy and ran in the high nines.

Krister Johansson in the fire up road at Santa Pod.  (Thanks to Dave Grabham for clearing up the ID)
