Benoit Pigeon, the Acceleration Archive's roving reporter and Pro Mod fanatic, has been out clicking away frantically yet again. The venue this time was Virginia Motorsports Park, Dinwiddie in Virginia. This is Benoit's report on the meeting. Well, let me ask you this: What can beat a Chevy Pro Mod at a Super Chevy Show? Super Chevy Show came recently to yet another of my nearby tracks at Dinwiddie, south of Richmond, VA and there was no way I would have missed the opportunity to witness my first such show ever. Super Chevy had partnered with EOPM (Extreme Outlaw Pro Mod) to bring a 16 car field. Not surprisingly VA Motorsport park has strong relations with EOPM and this was the second race of the championship this year at the track. VMP is a track where NHRA used to run National events with huge seating on the main stand, and it was pleasant to see the crowd filling the spaces mainly on Saturday especially on a rainy weekend. EOPM is a regional series, mainly raced in the Carolinas and Virginia, a very rich region historically for Pro Mods and an extremely active one. It is so rich I have yet to see many of the cars here even after four events between NHRA, ADRL, XDRL and Super Chevy this year alone in the area. The fact is EOPM is so active, quite a few racers from other regions come to take a chance on the tour. So Super Chevy picking them up for a few events and making this one a 16 car field is a smart move. In the end, the nitrous cars got rid of all the compressed machines and the final run win belonged to Tommy Franklin who happen to come from Virginia. The car show part got a little disrupted by the rain allowing for some unusual shots with droplets and transparent covers. However, the show went on and awards were given by Sunday mid-afternoon. There were many used parts for sale at the giant swap meet on Saturday before the field got soaked. There you could find anything from engine blocks to just about anything for your Chevy. Vendors were also present with many displays including subframes, repro parts, fiberglass bodies and panels. To sum it up, this is a good place to get parts and see the quality for yourself. We've been fighting huge amounts of rain this spring on the East Coast and it was no better this weekend. This did not stop many vendors, show cars, racers and spectators from making the trip even knowing there was a 60% chance of rain. Super Chevy was a great surprise and I love them for racing Pro Modified. Extreme Outlaw Pro Mods |
