I have trawled back through the archive to find this picture of the Stones' Hemi Hunter slingshot dragster in supercharged form in the pits at Blackbushe. |
Here is Hemi Hunter again but this time at Santa Pod with driver Gerry Andrews burning out in fine style. If anyone wants to know how much the slicks on a dragster grow at high speed - just show them this picture! |
Those of us whose first sight of a top fuel dragster was a front engined car rue the demise of the slingshot. The Stones inevitably moved with the times and produced Hemi Hunter II which is pictured here in this low level shot in the pits at Santa Pod. |

Mike Hall sold his Bantam-bodied competition altered and moved up to this beautiful slingshot dragster, the ex-Mr Revell car purchased from Dennis Priddle. |
A close up shot of Mike Hall entertaining the Snetterton crowd with a fine burn out from Shutdown. |
Still the ex-Mr Revell car but now owned by Mickey Naylor and re-named Medicine Man. This profile shot taken at Blackbushe shows off the sleek lines of the car which for many years held the record for the fastest elapsed time ever run by a slingshot dragster. |
Medicine Man in the pits at Snetterton. Sadly the car was destroyed when it pulled a gigantic wheelie at Santa Pod and crashed to earth completely totalling the chassis. It also marked the end of Mickey Naylor's driving career, thankfully he was not seriously injured in the accident. |

Björn Ardin was a great competitor in
Pro Comp which originally allowed injected nitro-burning cars to run against
supercharged methanol-burners. |
Same car but different paint and sponsor, the engine is still injected though. |
A few pictures now of the Cuss & Ashley Pro Comp dragsters that didn't make the cut first time round but which were too good to leave out. This original car did not have a name to my knowledge, it is pictured at Santa Pod. |
Pat Cuss at the wheel at Santa Pod again but this time a lot closer in to the action. |
Cuss & Ashley went on to produce the stunning Bel-Ray Streamliner. The radical design of the car is accentuated in this shot taken in the pits. |
Not the best exposure on this shot (no change there!) of the Bel-Ray Streamliner unfortunately but still worth a look. |
Baz Young's and Mickey Moore's fine looking Pro Comp slingshot dragster seen in the pits. |
And again here with Baz Young at the wheel burning out at Santa Pod Raceway. |
Late afternoon shadows make this an atmospheric picture of Ray Hoare's very innovative double turbocharged dragster. This shot was taken at Snetterton. |
Ray Hoare brings the beautiful streamlined Turbo Saxon to the line at Snetterton. |
Rune Fjeld is still a well known name in drag racing, here is his Wrangler-sponsored Ford Pinto Pro Comp funny car. |
Graham Hawes' Chevy Monza funny car, probably pictured at Snetterton. |
This dragster went on to be run by Andy Craddock in Top Fuel Dragster, this shot pre-dates this so presumably it must have been owned for a period by Graham Hawes. Tog of Eurodragster tells me that this car was originally built by Dennis Priddle for Micky Naylor as a replacement for his Medicine Man slingshot dragster which he totalled in an incredible wheelstand/rollover accident. |
