I am not 100% sure that the Sundance Kid ran in Pro Comp, still never mind it is a great looking retro-styled car. I am reliably informed by my friend Anders Olsson that the car was driven by Fred Larsen. |

Andy Barrack has been doing some research and tells me that this car used to be run as a top fuel dragster by Clive Skilton and called Second Revolution. It was being campaigned in Pro Comp with the unusual name of Juara by Steve Read of the ReadSpeed team when I shot it pulling this wheelie at Santa Pod. |

The Rainmaker car of John Wright and John Sutton was injected and therefore able to run on nitro. It is burning out in the spectator lane at Santa Pod Raceway. The car was powered by a 454 inch Chevy Rat motor. Thanks again to Andy Barrack for information on this car. |

Steinar Stolen's Vindicator with its Mustang funny car body on. Click here to see a picture of it running as an altered in Pro Comp. |

Another chance to see the radically styled Cuss & Ashley Bel-Ray Streamliner, this time it is burning out at Blackbushe. |

Those of you who look carefully at the name of the driver might think the lettering a little crude. I have a picture of the car as it came out of the trailer and it read Clive Skilton rather than Brian Hazelton. This is Skilton's fueller which he raced in the USA and which was imported by the Thunderbird team. |

Björn Ardin's Vega funny car in the pits at Santa Pod. |

Two of the great names of Scandinavian drag racing of this period - in the background is Björn Ardin's funny car with that of Anders Lantz in front. |
Liz & Ollie Burn's Komodo Dragon funny in the pits at Snetterton I think. |
Krister Johansson's blown dragster in the pits, he campaigned a nitro-burning injected car extremely successfully before this. |
Wheeldon & Rose's Donovan aluminium small block Chevrolet powered slingshot dragster. This car was absolutely unique when all the other dragsters were rear engined with much larger lumps. Co-owner and Crew Chief Steve Rose tells me the car ran 6.8 seconds at Santa Pod and 6.9 seconds at Blackbushe which he thinks was the quickest ever pro comp run there. |

The immaculate Dennis Priddle-built Black Magic funny car of Graham Hawes seen in the pits at Santa Pod with its matching tow truck. |
The Seaport Automotive-sponsored funny car was a regular visitor to Santa Pod where it is seen waiting for scrutineering. The driver was John Grösland. Olle Svensson tells me that John was absolutely not allowed by his wife any involvement in motor racing as she considered it to be way too dangerous with speeds over 75 mph. The fact that he managed to run a team with the quickest Pro Comp funny car in Europe for a couple of years without her knowing must be considered as an achievement almost worth a place in a Hall of Fame. |

The US team of Keeling & Clayton produced a succession of cars named California Charger, first top fuel dragsters and then funny cars. Here is a beautiful example now in the very capable hands of Steinar Stolen and competing in Pro Comp (with thanks to Anders Olsson yet again for giving me details of the owner/driver). |
This is the Tre Kronor-sponsored funny car driven by Harlan Thompson pictured in the pits at Santa Pod. |
Another well turned out Pro Comp funny car from Anders Lantz. |
Two British cars to finish off this page, this is the Rain City Warrior of Chris Filsell and Bill Sherratt burning out across the line at Santa Pod. This was the ex-Gladiator funny car of Allan 'Bootsie' Herridge. |
Ron Picardo's Datsun-bodied funny car in the pits at Santa Pod. I think it likely that Ron may have become a privateer at this stage and was running the car himself as opposed to driving for Santa Pod. |
