The Protector-sponsored car of Harlan Thompson pictured in the pits at Santa Pod Raceway on 25 September 1983.  It looks as if the crowd was building nicely.

Almost one year on (22 September 1984) from the last shot, Harlan Thompson's ride has picked up Budweiser sponsorship.  The venue was Santa Pod again.

Rune Fjeld is a man who has owned rather a lot of race cars.  He bought the beautiful Motown Shaker from 'Aluminium' Al Bergler.  It is seen here in the pits at the Pod on 7 July 1984.

Another beautiful car from over the pond - this shot of the ex-Al Segrini Super Brut funny car was also taken on 7 July 1984.  The driver was Norwegian Steiner Engen.

A rather bare looking Houndog 11 funny car in front of an equally bare spectator banking.  If you are/were a Houndog fan go to Chris Blows' excellent Walkin' the Dog site devoted to the team.  By the way this picture was taken at Santa Pod on 5 November 1983.

By 22 April 1984 Houndog 11's Corvette body had been given this striking paint job.

Another shot of Houndog 11 this time with its body down showing off its very streamlined shape.  This picture dates from 7 July 1984, it seems there was an excellent field of floppers at this meeting at Santa Pod.

The Page Team's Panic funny car seems to have lost its exclamation mark after the name in the change from comp altered to flopper.  This car was built and originally campaigned by Dennis Priddle and is seen here on 20 May 1984 at Blackbushe Aerodrome.

Panic burning out at Blackbushe on 20 May 1984.  I think the car must have been driven by either Dave or Gary Page at this meeting as Bob Jarrett did not get a drive until the Fireworks meeting at Santa Pod later in the year.

Fast forward to Santa Pod Raceway on 7 April 1985 and the Panic Monza has been re-painted.   I am fairly sure Bob Jarrett was in the hot seat by then.

Panic again at Santa Pod, this shot was taken on 26 May 1985.

The late Tony Boden's Hitman funny car in the pits at Blackbushe on 12 August 1984.

A rear view of the Hitman again at Blackbushe but this time taken on 20 May 1984.

The Hitman has had a change of sponsorship and new paint as shown in this picture taken on 6 July 1985 at Santa Pod Raceway.

This beauty is Ron Picardo's Jaguar XJ-S bodied Supercat up on the jacks at Long Marston on 29 June 1984.

The Liquidator funny car sits on its trailer on 12 August 1984 at Blackbushe but did not run.

John Spuffard is best known for driving Bob Jarrett's Showtime funny car.  Here is one of his earlier efforts - Showdown is pictured at Santa Pod on 7 April 1985.  Things get a bit confusing with cars getting re-cycled but I think this car was the ex-Gladiator Vega which then became Rain City Warrior and then Hustler (but not necessarily in that order!).

The Cannonball driven by Bill Sherratt was also present at Santa Pod on 7 April 1985.  I believe this car was a re-cycling of Don  Prudhomme's US Army-sponsored funny which was just about unbeatable when it raced in the States as I recall.

A very welcome visitor from the USA was Tom Hoover and his Showtime Corvette funny car.  This shot was taken at the Pod on 6 July 1985.

This is the ex-Houndog 9 funny car, previously named Warlock, now sponsored by Solarport and driven by Lesley Prior.  This shot was taken at Santa Pod on 29 June 1985.

The Frontline funny car of Andy Craddock is thought to have been an ex-Gene Snow car, it is shown here at Santa Pod on 6 July 1985.  Andy tells me the car initially used to go very hard left off the line which was caused by the wheelie bars making contact with the ground under hard acceleration.  Andy got the car down to 6.2 seconds at 200+mph.
