This page contains all my previously unpublished pictures of Dutch bikes.  The Dutch were quite a force in European drag bike racing back in the 1970s and '80s as the number of pictures on this page testifies.
I must thank Ton Pels and his late daughter Monique for all their help in identifying the riders and bikes so it is fitting that I start off with The Godfather himself.
When you see Ton astride his monstrous supertwin it is difficult to think that he might have started with a 500cc Triumph - well he did and this is it.  This picture must date from the mid-1970s.

I had originally thought this bike was Rob Janssen's double Norton (see pictures below).  However Ton's eagle-eyed daughter Monique correctly identified it as Ton's double Puma Triumph and explained that Ton and Rob used to race in the same team.

This is one of the last pictures I took way back when and I guess this is 1985 or 1986.  Ton was still using double Puma Triumph power then.

There was a huge variety of engines (and even numbers of engines) which the bike riders experimented with which you just don't see today.  Cees van Dongen campaigned this Honda 6 cylinder powered bike quite successfully as I recall.

Jos Smit didn't believe in travelling light, he usually turned up with a Pro Street bike as well as a competition machine.  He certainly liked to get as much track time in as possible.  The picture on the left was probably taken the season before the two below.  It looks like he was pretty busy over the winter.

This is Rob Janssen and his double Benelli powered comp bike - I told you about the variety of engines!

Rob then moved on to the Street or Pro Street bike (left),
then to the double Norton powered comp bike (below left and right),
and finally to the Nimag Suzuki (below right).

Our Rob was a bit of a lad for exotic bodywork on his bikes wasn't he?

These are two incarnations of Jan Jansen's injected 4 cylinder competition bike.

Two shots of Cees van Dongen's 500cc Honda.  I am obliged to Jolanda Liebeek for identifying the rider in these shots.  She should know - her late father was Cee's mechanic!
Cees seems to be veering towards the centre line in the picture on the right which was taken at Snetterton.

Age de Vries' smart Pro Street motorcycle seen in the pits at Santa Pod.

There seems to be a lot of engine in this bike - that's because Anton de Vos squeezed a couple of Kwakas in there.

The remaining pictures on this page are of the most prolific drag bike rider of his period - the late Henk Vink.
Henk invariably arrived with at least two bikes - often there were three.  He didn't call them all Big Spender for nothing, he had nothing but the best and plenty of it at that.
All the bikes he rode had Kawasaki engines with the exception of one - that had a rocket!  (Did you think Eric Teboul was the first to try that?)
I can't add much more so I have arranged the pictures in the order that they were taken from 1973 to 1985 - enjoy!

Did you think I was joking about the rocket?
