You can see why Alan O'Connor was such a crowd pleaser. Here he launches his Al's Gasser Ford Pop skywards at Santa Pod Raceway. |

Gone! Not all the same burn out but this sequence gives you some idea of the sort of mileage that Mike Churchill got from the slicks on his Mean Machine Pro Stocker. |

Chris Melia, owner and driver of Shy Tot, has been in touch with some details of the car which he bought from a Manchester scrap yard for £35 in 1975. The original 6 banger was removed and replaced with a Chrysler Hemi fed by a 6/71 blower and double Holley four barrel carbs. The transmission was a Muncy M21 box, Pontiac rear end and M&H 12" slicks. Chris' best time was a 12.1 in 1977 which was below its potential because of fuel supply problems. |

Brackett & Brown's Shotgun Wedding Ford Mustang Pro Stocker. The eagle-eyed Dick Thompson has identified the venue as Santa Pod, he hails from Podington so he ought to know! |

Melvyn Wooding's Blue Rose has metamorphasised (is that a word?) into a Ford Maverick Pro Stocker. It was in the pits at Santa Pod when this picture was taken. |

The Bilhuset team consisted of three street cars. Here is their Corvette named Stampede leaving the line hard with the massive rearwards weight transfer which was characteristic of these cars. |

Stampede in the spectator lane shaping up against team car Bellanova again at Santa Pod. |

Team Bilhuset consisting of in the foreground Stampede, the very similar Witchcraft Corvette, and finally Bellanova. My thanks to Anders Olsson for providing the names of the drivers who were Hakan Andersson, Bjorn Ardin (of pro-comp fame) and Sam Andersson respectively. |

Jeremy Cookson's Super Joker in the pits at Santa Pod. Jeremy's son Jerry (Track Manager at Shakey County) has written to tell me that the body was from a 1958 Berkeley sports car. The car was sponsored by Lucas and ran in the modified series in the early eighties powered by a blown 1600cc Lotus twin cam engine. It was capable of 11 second runs at 120mph. |

Unfortunately I have absolutely no details about this Tingbrand-sponsored Chevrolet Vega - I just like it. |

And just to underline the fact that drag racing can be dangerous, here is the Trick Corvette a couple of hours later having had a bit of a moment in the interim. Fortunately Clive was unhurt and he soon re-built the car and was back out on the strip. |
