Exhibition cars have always been a very popular feature of drag racing.
The picture above shows Roy Phelps driving the Wheelie Stingray at Santa Pod.
The wheelstanding Vauxhall estate was called Second Invention and is pictured left at Snetterton and right at Blackbushe Aerodrome.

Peter Crane has the distinction of being the first man outside the USA to clock a sub-six second run.  Stormbringer was purchased from the US team of Cannon & Soares.  The top two pictures were taken in 1976 and the one below in 1977.

At one time Santa Pod Raceway were running no less than three rear-engined Top Fuellers.
These five pictures are of Ron Picardo in Highway Patrol.  If you look at the enlarged shots you will see that blue lights were sometimes mounted on the rear wing!
The other two cars run by SPR were Asphalt Alleygator driven by the late Allan Herridge, and Maneater which was shoed by Ros Prior (see the bottom of this page).

The Stone's Tender Trap 5 litre Mk I Escort.  This car was driven by various people notably Radio 1 DJ Dave Lee Travis aka 'The Hairy Monster'.

This is Gerry Andrews driving Hemi Hunter II which was also part of the Stone's drag racing team.

Malcolm Olley built his jet-powered Pink Panther as a land speed record car but he also used to make regular appearances at NDRC meetings.  These shots were taken at Blackbushe Aerodrome where the first drag race in the UK took place.

Trevor Young imported this beautiful Competition Products-sponsored fueller from the States and competed very hard on what I imagine was a limited budget.

Ros Prior started her drag racing career driving the ex-Bruce Brown Age Machine drgaster after it was discovered that her husband Dave was a rather tight fit in the cockpit.  She then progressed on to Top Fuel driving the famous Mr Six slingshot which had run the first sub-seven second time outside the USA when driven by Dennis Priddle.
The car was called The Fast Lady (geddit?) and was sponsored by Revell.
Ros then went on to drive Santa Pod Raceway's Maneater rear-engined fueller with great success.

These pictures all show Ros at the wheel of Maneater at Santa Pod Raceway.

Flame burn outs used to be a regular feature at Fireworks meetings but that was before it became necessary to spray the track with Evo Stik in order to guarantee traction.

These three close-up shots of Ros in the cockpit of Maneater show the concentration needed before making a run in a six second Top Fuel Dragster.
Probably not that easy with Gatehouse waving his camera about in front of you!

This last shot of Maneater was taken in 1979 after the car had been re-painted.
